Light the candle to support freedom in Belarus on Sunday, October 16
None of the countries is alone…This is a line from the Estonian beloved patriotic song, composed by Alo Mattiisen and sung during the velvet Revolution. The song expresses a belief, that although the gaining of independence lies in the hands of the people, the solidarity and support of the neighbours is necessary as well.
On Sunday, October 16, Belarusians put out the electric lights and light candles on the windows to commemorate the persons who have disappeared or perished because of the dictatorship of Lukashenko.
Belarus should not be alone in its endeavours to become a democratic country, where the human rights are respected and assured. If you think the same way, please light a candle on your window on 16 October, at 8 p.m. as a sign of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners and disappeared oppositionists. Let it be our little sincere obeisance for the victims and their families and for everybody who fight for freedom and democracy in Belarus.
