Opposition leaders brief MEPs on October 26

Dear Colleagues,

We kindly invite you for a meeting with two outstanding Belarusian opposition leaders, Mr. Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civic Party of Belarus and Mr. Vincuk Viacorka, Chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front. During this meeting they will inform interested members of Parliament on the political situation in Belarus, that is preparing itself for presidential elections in July 2006.

This meeting will be hosted by MEPs Hennis-Plasschaert (ALDE), Geremek (ALDE), Klich (EPP) and Wiersma (PES) and is organized in co-operation with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and the Brussels-based Office for Democratic Belarus.

In addition to the political situation in Belarus in general, the process that has led to the election of one single opposition candidate that is supported by all opposition parties will be discussed in particular. They will also express their views on the role the European Institutions could best play in the period preceding the presidential elections of 2006.
