Civil society campaigns on the International Criminal Court

The European Commission has launched a central call for proposals for support of global civil society campaigns designed to ensure the effective functioning of the International Criminal Court (ICC) under Objective 4 of the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
 
The themes for this call for proposals are:
1.       Support to the effective functioning of the International Criminal Court.
2.       Promotion of universal ratification of the Rome Statute and the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Court.
3.       Support for the preparation and adoption of national implementing legislation of the Rome Statute and the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Court.
4.       Promotion and implementation of the complementarity principle between the ICC and the national judicial systems.
The specific activities allowed under each theme are detailed on pages 8 and 9 of the Guidelines for Applicants (see below).
 
The total grant available is 4 million euro from the 2007 budget. The minimum grant size is 500,000 euro and the maximum grant size is 1.5 million euro. The European Commission's grant may not be more than 80% of the total project cost. 
 
The duration of projects that will be supported is a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 36 months.
 
The deadline for the submission of proposals is 26 February 2008. As with the old EIDHR, the Commission will continue to be very strict in its immediate rejection of any applications containing errors or omissions.
