Education Change in the IT Era:
Vision and Reality
Tallinn, Estonia
November 14, 1998
Internet carries a promise of widespread restructuring of the ways we live our lives. It is already having a major impact on education by redefining the process of teaching. Is it just another hype or are we about to catch the bandwagon?
On November 14, 1998 the Open Estonia Foundation (OEF) offered an opportunity to find it out by attending a one-day conference in Tallinn on the IT applications in education from vision to reality.
The conference`s objective was to study the computerization of the educational system and learn how the process widely code-named as Tiger Leap has been managed in Estonia. The topics covered the setting the goals, managing the process, as well as the first case studies of functioning applications at schools.
The speakers included former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of the Tiger Leap Foundation (TLF), Rector of the Tartu University, representatives of TLF, OEF, PHARE ISE Program and many others.
The format of the conference was based on three moderated panels, each with 3-4 presentations followed with a round of Questions and Answers.
The working language of the conference was English.
